STOP LYIN (PRE-SALE)
This one goes back to my college days.
My fraternity chapter created a small movement around a common saying — "Stop Lyin'" — and it spread fast. We got t-shirts made, the phrase took on a life of its own, and the moniker stuck. What started as a joke became a rallying cry across the city.
Years later, it still holds. Especially now.
In the age of misinformation, creatives have a responsibility to be truthtellers. But before we can tell the truth to the world, we have to stop lyin' to ourselves.
"If we collaborate with the powerful then our language will lose its currency as a means to tell the truth in order to change the truth." — June Jordan
Stop lyin' to yourself about not being enough.
Stop lyin' to yourself about not being creative.
Stop lyin' to yourself about why you make art.
Stop lyin' to yourself about not caring.
Stop lyin' to yourself about not being educated enough to start.
Stop lyin' to yourself about the power we have to create new worlds.
Stop lyin' to yourself about the community you won't cultivate. (It's there waiting for you. Say yes.)
Stop lyin' to yourself about what you can't do.
Stop lyin' to yourself about it being perfect. Get messy, publish it, polish later.
